My Skin Care Routine-Blog Hop

1 Feb

Welcome to the first 2014 Blog hop, brought to you by all the lovelies over at our Facebook Page Beauty and Fashion Blog Community(if your interested in joining our group pleaes click here, we’re growing each day and have a lovely community going).  We’ve already did one blog hop at the end of the year, it was the top 13 products of 2013. This year we are starting up with our skin care Routine.

This blog hop is particularly exciting and I can’t wait to see what everyone else uses, and hopefully some of you will leave some comment love and let me know what you use. I’m always looking for something new to quench my skin.

I have a hard time keeping my combination (mainly dry and some oily spots) under control. I live in VA and the weather tends to be all four seasons in the winter.  My skin is really freaking out no knowing how to handle things.  I try to keep what I use very simple. I hate using a lot of items that either have way to many chemicals or just layer way to much that can cause my skin to do opposite of what I want it to do.

So these are the basics that I use weekly.  I try to use as much natural items that I can so I know what all is going on my skin.

My every day use of moisturizer

The Body Ship Vitamin E Moisture Cream.  This is the best moisturizer I have found for  pretty much all skin types. If you need hydration then this is the product for you. This retails for $16.50 but The Body Shop is always having a sale (usually once a month they do a half off sale).  Once I get out the shower I always put this on immediately.  The best time to put on a moisturizer is right after a nice hot shower so your open pores can drench in the moisture.  I can’t say how much I love this product. I have been using it for more than 5 years.  I highly recommend it, and the nice thing is, is if you don’t like it you can always take it back to the store.

Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray.  I never thought I was going to be someone to jump on this face spray prepper band wagon, but Sephora had a 500 VIB point Urban Decay gift and once I used this I was in love.  I recently did a review on it here, but to give you a little idea why I like it is what it does for your skin. This item is good for all skin types to prep you skin for moisture and make up.  You can also use it during the day, a little spritz will wake you up. It’s also oil free, so for those of us who has some slick spots, it won’t make your face extra slicky.

The Facial Cleansers

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing Pads.  I just recently picked this up at Rite Aid. It was one of those front lane impulse buys.  Of course my curiosity kills me and I had to pick it up, and I like Aveeno anyways.  What I really like using this product is that one side of the pad is an exfoliate the other is softer for those sensitive spots around the eye areas. When I first used this I was so surprised on how much extra makeup I had on me.  This is a great product to keep on hand when you don’t want to do a full on facial at home. It’s quick and your face feels so clean afterwards.  I use this one only a few times a week because I don’t want to over scrub my face.

Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser- I use this about twice a week.  I keep this in my caddie in my shower.  If I’m feeling lazy and not wanting to go full on face cleanse and I didn’t wash my face the night before (yes I am VERY bad about that) I use this while I’m in the shower.  You can find this anywhere, I believe I purchased mine thru Ulta when I was getting a big purchase.  You can click here to go to their web site and it cost $6.99, I know you can get it pretty much anywhere.  What I love about it the most is that it has a light smell and isn’t harsh to your skin. Also another plus side is that it loves all skin types, no need to know if your a combo or oily face.

The Miscellaneous Face Items

41JNP8NW48LNeutrogena Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes So this isn’t totally skin care, but it removes stuff from my skin!  I love these and would be lost with out them if they didn’t exist. On lazy night (I’m not 100% lazy all the time, but I’m tired a lot….aaaaand a little be lazy lol) I like to use these to get mainly my eye make up off. But I also run one across my face to get the surface make up off. This allows me not to have my skin to clog up as bad.  The link I gave is to Ulta which has them for $8.99, which is EXPENSIVE!.  I get them at Target for $4.99, if you want to try them they have small travel sizes for $1.99. But if you have a Sams Club near you, you can get a three pack for $12.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Sink-In Moisturizer Mask-This stuff is amazing!  It’s not your normal mask.  It’s a mask that doesn’t harden. It’s more like a moisturizer that stays on top of your skin and after 10 minutes you wipe it off with a towel.  It leaves your skin smooth, cool and so moisturized up.  I use this once a week to give some life to my skin.  I feel like if I had to use it more than once I would become oily.  You can get the sample for  $2.50 or a full size for $22 but they are always running a sale online, which the store doesn’t have going (right now everything is 40% off and free shipping over $15).

There you go! This is what I keep my face so fresh and so clean clean.  Let me know if you have used any of these and what you thought of them.  Do you have any recommendations?

Also please go and see these lovely ladies and what they use!

The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner

28 Oct

I recently did a post on my Body Shop haul that I had (I’ll have another soon, I got a box full of goodies coming my way I had tons of coupons and got more then 50% off my total purchase!).  I’ve been using the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner every other day for the last few days and I am pretty pleased so far.  I never really used a toner before but I’ve read a few sites that suggested it, and at the time that I bought it, it was 50% off.

Here is what The Body Shop site description is of the product

This refreshing toner freshens and removes the last traces of make-up, dirt and oil, leaving skin feeling soft, fresh and ready for moisturising. The shake to activate formula allows skin to benefit from mattifying powders, while ingredients including Community Trade organic tea tree oil, tamanu oil and white willow bark extracts ensure skin looks matte, without drying.

  • Removes traces of make-up, cleanser and impurities
  • Mattifying powders leave skin shine-free
  • Clinically proven to give clearer-looking skin

The retail price is $11.50 right now there is a 25% store wide sale which makes it $8.63. Also if you purchase one of their new honey products you can use the promo code HONEY and get free shipping on your purchase!

My initial reaction was that it was very cooling to the face and that a little squeeze goes a long way. For those that do not like a strong smell, this one has a bit of one because it has that true tea tree smell, but once you swipe it across your face the smell goes away.  What surprised me that I thought my face was clear of my makeup since I used a face wash before hand, and I was wrong.  I still had some of my foundation on and it seemed to all come off on that one cotton ball.  I wasn’t prepared for that.  So it definitely removes traces of make-up and cleanses like it says.

As for the impurities, the only impurities that I have are a small amount of black heads on my nose and a bit of pink in my cheeks. My nose seemed to have cleared up a bit, but nothing really works on my pink parts of my skin. I’m not sure if that is part of the impurities that are covered for this toner.  While I do not have a lot of break outs and my skin is normally clear, I can contest that any type of tea tree is great for acne.

I’ve never really had any product that I have disliked from The Body Shop so I’m usually pleased with anything I buy.  The only thing I wish was that it came in a mini bottle to try out. I doubt I’ll use this whole thing.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Sink-In Moisture Mask

28 Oct

Good Morning! It is Monday and I have very little focus at work right now, so i thought I wouls do a morning mini review.

I recently did a post on my Body Shop haul. I am a big fan of their Vitamin E line. I have been using their moisturizer from that line for several years now and it quinches my dry spots on my face thirst.

This mask is a bit different from what I am use to. I normally use the mask that you set on and let it harden and then wash off. This one you dont even do any of that.

The back says that you put it on for 10 minutes and wipe off with a tissue. Odd right?

The mask is just like their moisturizer. Its pretty light and cooling once put on. Unlike the moisturizer when put onto your face it just sits there. After 10 minutes you wipe it off with tissue. I made the mistake and used toilet paper, dont do that it leaves little bits on your skin. It was all I had at the time.

The result? My skin never felt so soft it was unreal. The next day it was still amazingly moisturized that I didnt really need to use my moisturizer.

Over all I am kind of in love with this product. You can get a one time use from The Body Shop online for about $3. The full size is $22 I lucked out that Ulta had it and I had a 20% coupon and $3 off and ordered it yesterday. I cant wait to get it in the mail!

The Body Shop Goodies

18 Oct

The Body Shop is one of my favorite places for everything good and natural for your skin. I have been buying from them for years amd sadly I am limited to purchasing online since their store is moving farther away from me. Last week they had 40% off their whole site and lucky for me I was able to reup on my favorite moisturizer.

Their Vitamin E Moisture Cream is the best. It is so hydrating that my skin soaks it up like it has missed me using it from the morning before. There isn’t any smell and the whole thing last me about 2 months.  This retails for $16.50

Next I have been looking for a toner and what a better time to try this while it was on sale. I have never used a toner but I have been reading that I should. I chose to buy their Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner that is suppose to help with blemishes and redness. I have used their tea tree line before so I have high hopes. This retails for $11.50.

Of the two packets I purchased the one time use of the Vitamin E Sink In Moisture Mask. I am all about getting the most hydration for my skin and their site said its suppose to do exactly that. Retails for $2.50.

The Chocomania was a sample of their body butter. I recieved two of them. I am not sure how I am going to take to smelling like chocolate. I hope I am not tempted to eat myself if its lovely smelling like chocolate usually is.

Why I Use Different Foundations Seasonally

1 Sep

Over the years of using makeup I have learned that not all foundations are created equally for all seasons.  I’ve used all the possible different formulas out there from loose powdered, press powder, to liquids.  I found out quickly, with having combination skin (with dry spots in the ‘T’ zone) that not just one foundation works during the changing of the seasons.  It took awhile to figure out and now my skin thanks me every day.

Here is what I figured out and use.  For the Spring and Summer months when it starts getting warmer and humid (VA is horrible with it’s humidity) my skin is in desperate need to breathe.  I go with a lighter powdered foundation with a SPF for protection and my usual heavy duty moisturizer.  For those months I use bareMinerals foundation in Medium since I get a little color.I usually got thru 1 1/2 of them so it carries into the next years season switch up.

Sephora Retail $28

For the Fall/ Winter months it’s kind of sketchy in VA.  We can still have some very warm days up until Oct.  The it tends to get harshly cold in Dec/Jan.  My skin screams for moisture 24 hours a day.  I found that if I switch to a liquid foundation locks in the moisturizer longer than the powder.  I think that heavier formula of a liquid foundation tends to last longer in the cooler months.  For those seasons I use NARS Sheer Foundation.  It’s  a little pricey but I found it’s one of the best foundation that I have matched a color perfectly to my fair skin.

s1202043-main-heroSephora Retail $44

As for my go to moisturizer I I love The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Moisture Cream.  The formula is a little thicker and gives me the most amount of moisture my skin loves.  It’s not scented or  greasy and best of all, all natural.  What is also great if you wait The Body shop has some great promos right now they have buy 2 get 2 free and buy 3 and get 3 free on all products.

The Body Shop Retails $16.50

What kind of foundation do you use? Recommendations?

What’s In My Bag-Makeup Edition Part 1

15 Jul

bag 004

Good Morning my lovelies! Today’s edition of What’s in my Bag is going to be all about the makeup. Also it’s a trilogy, I have two other bags to go since I’m redoing my organization for my makeup in my bathroom.

bag 003

This is my Kat Von D Choo-Choo bag. This has to be my ultimate favorite vessel for my makeup. This is also my main bag that I carry my essentials that I either use daily or something in their weekly.  This is my go to bag for everything and is an amazing carry all for going on trips.  This is what the inside looks like:

bag 005

I holds a lot, there is no rhyme or reason or organization to it, but I do know where everything ends up.  As you can see I really pack it with all my favorites that I cannot live with out.  I hooked you all up with some link love on products to the site to order and some to reviews I did.

Now comes the break down!  I’ll go in a little bit of order on how I put my makeup on

bag 007

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream.  This is hands down, the best moisturizer I’ve used. Not only is it all natural, it is scent free, grease free and soaks into skin that allows you to put on you foundation right away.  I use the cream over the regular moisturizer they have in this because it helps with certain parts of my face that is dry.  I’ve been using this for a few years now and love the whole line of their Vitamin E.

bag 008

Next I used the mineral face primer from elf.  I find this even outs my skin for my foundations.  I keep two foundations on hand.  I used two because my face is different from season to season which is odd.  I use Bare Minerals in the Spring/Summer since it’s so hot in Virginia that it allows my face not only get a little color with some protection on it, but it allows my skin to breathe if I end up sweating, and it doesn’t get cakey and run. In the Fall/Winter I use NARS Sheer Glow liquid foundation. This locks in the moisture to keep my skin soft and less of a chance to chap and dry out more in the harsh cooler air.  You will notice that I do not use a finishing powder. I really don’t like the matte look on my face so I skip that step.

bag 011

Urban Decay Eye Potion Primer in Sin. I know some of you have seen me mention this several times and recommend it highly.  This is something I use religiously.  I also use it when I want to keep my make up low key or just am to lazy to do it up for work.  It gives a lovely shimmery champagne look when you do a few layers of it alone.  When using eyeshadow it just gives colors more of a pop and makes it last all day.  If you splurge on anything purchase this at Sephora.

bag 006

Eyeshadow.  I’m going to break this down in a few pictures. I have TONS of shadows but these are what I used every week.  First are my palettes. I’ve done reviews on the Beach Beauty from elf and Sephora Natural Instinct already and I just love them. The Beach Beauty gives bold beach colors and the Natural Instinct has some beautiful neutrals and smokey colors.

bag 021

These two neutrals I use as a brow bone highlighter when I’m using darker and bold colors to give my eyes more definition.  This is Clinique Lucky Penny and The Body Shop in color 03.

bag 022

These are my two absolute favorite fun eyeshadows.  They are from the Kat Von D line and are shade shifters.  On the left is Love Letter the main base color is a plum and shifts into a brownish color.  The Right is Devotion and the main color is a gold that shifts into a beautiful bronze.  I find that Devotion shows more of the color shift then Love Letter but  I do love both.

bag 023

Then for another fun pop of color I have these three lovelies.  Starting from the left is Sephora brand Outrageous Prisma Chrome in Outrageous Metallic Purple. L’Oreal Hip High Intensity Pigment in Flamboyant.  Then Urban Decay in Heat.  My personal favorite is heat I love to use it with some of my golds as an accent color to give a pretty sunset look.

bag 019

I love liquid eyeliner I pretty much use it everyday.  The left is The Body Shop purple liquid eyeliner, that is a bright violet, unfortunately it’s been discontinued.  But my main liner is Sephora brand black purple.  I find that black can be a bit harsh and very rarely use it as a liner color.  This black purple is the perfect shade, its not as dark as black and its slightly darker then plum. What is great about purple, I think, that it goes well with everything like black does.

bag 020

Urban Decay makes the best pencil eyeliner, it goes on so smooth.  I use these three when I have more of a light neutral shadow on and need a bit of a pop.  The light green is Freak, pink in Woodstock and teal in Flipside which is my favorite.

bag 015

I tend to mix my mascaras.  I end up going more towards to Maybelline and Covergirl, I just bought this elf one that I’m still deciding if I like it.  I like mixing Maybelline Falsies and Rocket Volume together to give a mega length look.  Then I pair the Covergirl Clump Buster and Lash Blast Luxe for a less dramatic look.  The elf seems to be ok so far but I need to wear it more before I can give a better review

bag 013bag 014

This is pretty much the only blush I wear anymore, it splurge a little on it because it is perfect for my light skin.  Its NARS Orgasm blush.  It gives you that nice flushed look, well the name pretty much gives you an idea the look it gives.  It’s perfect and it last forever.  As you can tell it’s well loved.

bag 025

Finally my lip colors.  I have done a few reviews on them. So I’ll give you some link love.  I love my Color Whisper from Maybelline in A Plum Prospect and Cherry Pop.  I’m still on the fence on the L’oreal Infinite Fuchsia.  For a soft pretty use I use Revlon Super Lustrous in Coral Reef. NYC Duel lip color in The Penthouse Plum and The Vintage Pinks.  I love love LOVE Covergirls Wetslick in sizzle for a plum shimmer look. And for my quest for the perfect reds I have Paula Dorff red which is more sheer then it looks and elf Matte Lip color in Rich Red.

Well this was definitely fun. Later on this week when I begin the organization I will do a part 2 and 3.

Do you have any of these products?  What are you main items you like to use?
