Happy Valentines Day Tag!

Happy Valentine’s Day!  I’m sitting here on the couch with my boyfriend and our puppy is sleeping between us while we watch the movie Face Off (great movie, so not romantic but that’s not our style). A few of the ladies over at our Facebook Page Beauty and Fashion Blog Community did this tag and thought I would do it (click here to join, we love new members!)

What is your favorite Valentine’s Day treat?
It’s an every day treat, but I love chocolate. But if I want to get specific, Godiva, especially the birthday cake and chocolate molten lava!

 

Sweethearts or chocolate covered strawberries?
I’m going with strawberries, very chilled with dark chocolate. I’m SO not demanding.

 

What was your favorite Valentine’s Day memory?
Last year, it was my boyfriend and mine first Valentine’s Day living together.  He wanted to cook me dinner that consisted of steak, rolls and some pickled veggies. He is very particular how he does things, when he cuts veggies they are pretty much very equal and size and quantity.  Well the big part was the steaks (mind you he cooks maybe 3 times a year) which had to be seared on the stove top a few minutes on each side and then put in the oven to cook the rest of the time.  He had the pan up on high heat and added olive oil and then threw the steaks on with not patting them dry and the smoke consumed the apartment, and the fire alarm when off. We were watching the sprinklers hoping they wouldn’t go off. So while we were opening doors and trying to open our windows (which will go up and not down that easily…we learned that night) I was standing on a chair fanning the alarm with a towel.  He called the fired department to let them know it was a false alarm just in case. Amazingly the steaks were amazing! We dined that night in a smokey apartment, and I will never forget it.

 

What movie would you rather watch on Valentine’s Day: “Pretty Woman” or “You’ve Got Mail”?
Honestly, neither.  Right now we are watching Faceoff and we’re going to see Robocop this weekend.  I’m a terrible girl who doesn’t love romantic movies unless it’s Jane Austen.

 

What celeb would you not mind having as your Valentine?
To easy, he’s been my celebrity crush for a very long while now…..Michael Fassbender.  I like to imagine him like this

What would you do on your perfect Valentine’s Day date?

I’m happy with what we’re doing now, but I would place us at the beach.

What is your ideal Valentine’s Day date outfit?
I am not big on dressing up except for New Years.  I love wearing some cute boots with skinny jeans and a really cute sweater.

 

Homemade or store-bought gifts?
Homemade dinner..but he bought me tickets to see Wicked and will endure it with me in a few months! I haven’t been the last few years it came here, so I’m super excited!

 

Would you wear your hair up or hair down for a date night?
Down, maybe  depending on the outfit.

Get To Know Me Tag!

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?

Straight, very baby fine actually, it can be a pain sometime

 2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?

I love going to the salon, I’m going tomorrow actually.  It’s my one thing I like to do.  Thou when I can’t get in I have been known to be a boxed color

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?

I rarely do anything with my hair, it’s either plain and down or in a pony tail by the end of the day

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?

Myself. Thou I might venture to get one soon.

5. How often do you change your nail polish?

Once a week.

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?

I do it just the summer. Winters all I think about is going home in the warm.

7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?

I can do anything under 15 minutes

8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?

Face always face.

9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?

I have never used them. Shocking right?

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?

Yes for some reason I do

12. Do you wear makeup when you’re home alone or with family?

Never, unless I am playing with makeup and trying something new.  If I don’t leave the house, no mater who is there I don’t put anything on

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?

No I can’t. Even if it’s just some foundation only, I have to have something on.

14. How many high-end products do you have?

I can’t tell you how many. I have a mix of high end and regular store bought.

15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you’re getting dressed?

I decided when I get dressed up

16. How often do you change your handbag?

Rarely,   I find it hard to find a good purse

17. What time do you wake up and go to sleep?

Work days I’m up at 6am in bed at 10 or earlier.  Weekends I’m usually up by 7ish, and in bed 10 or so.

18. How often or when do you workout?

Ugh I’m totally lazy lately.

19. Left handed or right handed?

Righty all the way!

5’4″

21. Do you speak any foreign languages?

No I wish thou

22. How many pets do you have?

Currently zero, but we’re looking to adopt a dog right now

This is oddly written…I blog on my computer and phone.  Is that what your asking?

Yes I love the comment section on everything, just not blogs

25. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?

Not really, but I buy a lot so I’ll probably be buying it in the future.

26. How did you come up with your blog name?

I’m probably the geekest girl your ever meet, it was the inspiration to my name.

27. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?

I have an old Nikon and I love it. I also use my cell phone.

28. How often do you clean your house?

Every day as I go

29. What’s your favorite color?

I wear a lot of purple lately

30. Do you swear?

WAY to much.  People think something is wrong if I don’t swear

31. What are you doing with the rest of your day?

Probably parking my butt on the couch and turning in early.  It’s been a long day.

Get To Know This Blogger

I thought it would be fun to do a little get to know this blogger.  I feel like sometimes we write about one thing so much that it only shows on part of our personalities.  I know I do a lot of beauty stuff, but my blogs name is a Little Bit of Girly Geekery.  That title does say a lot about me, but I rarely show it.  I do show a bit more of it over at my other blog The Movie Maven, there I show my passion about movies, movie news, share movie short films and also geek chic fashion. I didn’t want to combine the two since beauty and movies don’t always go hand in hand.  Blogging is fun but I don’t think we get a lot out of WordPress to get to know each other more and bond and make new acquaintances or even close friends. So with that, here is a bit more about myself!

1. I use to be an Art Historian Major but then ended up teaching Middle School Math

Yes I know it’s weird, usually you either use your right or left side of the brain.  I fell in love with Art History but the area I am in I would have to move, and couldn’t at the time, so I had to switch to something more feasible and that was math. I like figuring out problems and did a brief stint in teaching middle school algebra.  What is great is that math is used in a lot of art. A little something called the Golden Rule (In mathematics and the arts, two quantities are in the golden ratio if their ratio is the same as the ratio of their sum to their maximum. It always equal 1.618)  I continued learning on my own with art and found that many of early works use this rule.  You be amazed if you googled this.

2. I’m a book hoarder

All my shelves are packed, we have 4 book shelves in our place and between my book obsession and my boyfriends it is over flowing.  The sad part is that I’m a book hoarder on my kindle.  I currently have over 100 books to read and I keep buying daily, but I also get a lot of them free.  I’ve been a reader since, well  I think I was reading before I entered Kindergarten. I have a terrible taste for either zombie or smut books (stuff like 50 Shades of Grey on that line).  At least I’m still reading!

3. I own tons of retro comic t-shirts

I’m currently wearing something like this. Half of my closet, right next to my large collection of dresses and high heels on a shoe rack, is all my comic book t-shirts.  I also have some Disney Princess shirts, Rainbow Brite, and tons of retro concert shirts.

4. My favorite music is Ska and Punk

Some of my favorite artist is Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, Suburban Legands, Dropkick Murphy, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Operation Ivy. I might be 32, but I will always rock out to this music and go to concerts.  I just am not a pit hospitality person anymore

5. I have a softer side, I love period pieces 

I love Jane Austen and everything about that time.  I love all the movies that are adapted from her, and Charlotte Bronte.  I think it has to do with all the romanticism.  And who doesn’t love head strong women and the clothing.  Also Mr. Darcy, who doesn’t love him?

6. When I have an obsession I have to have those things right now but I procrastinate doing/using them

That’s pretty self explanatory.  I’ll want to decorate and buy all the times and they will sit in a bag for a week before I do anything about it. Same with clothes, makeup….so on so on.  I think once I get obsessed and I get my hands on something the thrill and excitement is curbed.

7. I am ninja level in sarcasm 

If you get to know me well then you’ll learn that everything I say to you is dripping with sarcasm.  It’s just my nature, it’s how I joke. I always have a snarky comment to make, but it doesn’t mean I’m insulting. It’s really me showing you I like you, honestly<————–no sarcasm there

8. In a previous life  I must have been a buyer

I say this because it sounds better than ” Hi, I’m Jenn, I buy to much stuff because I can”. And yes I have justified purchases with, it was on sale.  I save money, but I have a hard time not buying something. I literally have to go online some days and load up a cart just to satisfy my need to shop.  I don’t buy, but this is what I do on occasions. I feel sad about this now about myself.  Maybe I’ll buy myself something to feel better….wait, what??

9. I like to take fancy nature pictures

By no means am I photographer, but I like to think I take some nice nature pictures.  I do this for my own pleasure.

Girly Things That Make Me Happy: Weekend Edition

Confession time: I do not have many girl friends.  How does this happen?  I have found out as I get older the more girl friends you have the catty, back stabbing can happen. True story I’ve had this happen before.  I have some ladies at work that I enjoy going out with occasionally, one that I’m really close to. Other than that I have one really good female best friends, whom I don’t really get to see that much.

This brings me to my weekend edition of what is makes me happy.  I get to spend an evening with my friend shopping!!  We get to do this one a month. This time since fall is just right around the corner we are going boot shopping.  While we’re at the mall we will probably hit up some Ulta and DSW. If you don’t know what DSW is this should give you an idea:

Little things like that spending some grown up time with out kids are some of the happiest moments.  After the shopping we usually grab some dinner and/or coffee and have a bitch fest.  It’s great therapy.  I won’t say cheap because we all know shopping no one ever comes out the victors except for retailers.  As  I get older I cherish these moments more and more, this little moment out of our hectic lives are important to me.
